This is a cozy little spot (about 8 tables and 8 bar spots) with a wide variety of different authentic Japanese dishes. They serve all of the standards - ramen, udon, soba, curry rice, teriyaki, tempura and even some sushi rolls (usually no sashimi though), as well as some izakaya snack fare. When you sit at a table, you used to be met with three or four different menus AND there is a seasonal board with additional a la carte items on the wall. I think they have consolidated into one big menu now -the board remains, but there is seriously something for everyone here. The owners must be from Gunma-ken in Japan because they seem to specialize in beer and sake produced in that prefecture. My hubby really enjoys the Kawada Snow weizen because he loves hefeweizen beer.
The food is generally simple and very good. The dinner plates include a yummy miso soup, the entree, green, cabbage and potato salads. It might not seem like a lot of food, but we definitely feel full and still pretty healthy after eating here (not easily done!).
For ambiance, they are usually playing some funky Japanese pop or progressive rock and the occasional American alternative tunes, but it is usually very unobtrusive.
This place has been around forever, but we only discovered it in the last several years. You can tell there are Japanese American families who have been coming here for years. I really want this place to ride the success of other Japanese ikakaya and ramen places, but I still want to be able to walk in a get a table. Is that so wrong? Come try it out, but just don't come when I want to get my grub on. Thanks. -

My boyfriend and I were looking for something close by to eat, since we had a loaded day. We came across this place on yelp, so we decided to check it out!
We ordered the blue crab rice balls, the chikuwa (?) with cream cheese (basically a fish cake tempura with cream cheese), and chicken curry. The blue crab rice ball was a tad disappointing. I felt that it was mostly rice. The fishcake with cream cheese wasn't bad. It was actually quite interesting, but I enjoyed it. It is quite a lot of cream cheese though, so if you don't like cream cheese I wouldn't recommended it. The chicken katsu curry was good! It was crispy and the chicken wasn't dry.
I recommend the chicken curry! The rice ball was a let down, but maybe they give you more if it's a different fish? Idk LOL I would come back and try out their other things! -

Honda-ya box is a hidden gem in the area! I usually don't like teriyaki chicken but I love the way they grill theirs! I also love their grilled salmon cheek!
The price range is super fair and food is delicious. I love that they offer a wide variety of Japanese comfort food such as takoyaki and yakisoba, as well as bento boxes and sushi rolls!
Service is always great and the space has a relaxing and homey vibe! -

This establishment is on the smaller side. Has a larger sushi bar but, not many tables. I can see this place isn't ideal for a larger party. Came here on a Friday night. The wait was pretty long. They don't have any room inside for you to sit and wait so you have to wait outside. Not a big deal depending on the weather but, I would at least provide some chairs or a couple of benches outside for their patrons to sit comfortably while they wait. I ordered a roll & a salad. The salad tasted more like a cole slaw. I can't remember the name of the roll, sorry. It had shrimp tempura & avocado in it. See picture. Service & food was good but, I don't feel the need to go back.
